What is a garage door service plan?
A service plan is an optional way to schedule regular garage door servicing at recommended intervals. This helps ensure your door continues to operate safely and reliably over time, particularly for frequently used doors or commercial environments.
What’s involved in a garage door service
When we service your garage door, we follow a structured checklist to ensure nothing is missed. Each service focuses on safety, smooth operation, and early identification of wear.
Full safety and visual inspection
We inspect all critical components, including:
– Springs, cables, and drums
– Rollers, hinges, and brackets
– Tracks and fixings
– Weather seals and cladding
– Safety devices and auto-reverse features
We check for wear, corrosion, fatigue, alignment issues, and any signs that could lead to a breakdown or safety risk.
Lubrication and noise reduction
We apply the correct silicone-based lubricants and, where required, high-grade grease to reduce friction and wear. This helps the door operate more smoothly and quietly while reducing strain on the opener.
Door balance and spring tension
The door is tested manually to confirm it is correctly balanced. Where required, spring tension is adjusted so the door lifts and lowers evenly and the opener is not overworked during operation.
Opener and controls check
For automated doors, we:
– Test travel limits and operating forces
– Check and adjust auto-reverse settings
– Inspect the drive system (chain, belt, shaft, or direct drive)
– Test remotes, wall controls, and keypads
Minor adjustments and settings are corrected during the visit.
Hardware tightening and minor adjustments
Loose fasteners are tightened, track alignment is checked, and small adjustments are made to improve daily performance and reliability.
Service records and automatic reminders
Each garage door we service is recorded as an individual asset in our system. This provides a clear service history over the life of the door, including:
– Door and opener make and model
– Photos and notes from each service visit
– Parts replaced and adjustments made
– Maintenance observations and future recommendations
This record helps make future servicing faster, more accurate, and easier to diagnose as the door ages. A service report is provided after each visit.
Automatic email reminders are also sent when your door is due for its next service, so there’s no need to track dates or rely on reminder stickers.
How often should a garage door be serviced?
As a general guide
Residential garage doors: every 12–24 months
High-use or commercial doors: every 6–12 months
